Medical Assistant Program

When you graduate as a medical assistant, you will work under the direct supervision and control of a doctor and/or registered nurse to perform the following duties:

  • Arrange hospital admission
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients
  • Front office responsibilities
  • such as bookkeeping
  • Perform basic lab tests
  • Prepare laboratory specimens
  • Maintain equipment and prepare patients for radiography tests
  • Prepare patients for examinations
  • Schedule appointments
  • Sterilize medical instruments and sterilize office exam rooms and much more

The program:

Prepares the student to work in various settings including front and back office

Admission requirements:

  • Applicants must pass an entrance exam
  • High school diploma not required
  • Free GED program available to all students

Location:

Classes are held at the Colton and Victorville campuses. Externships are held in selected hospitals and agencies in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

Course length:

  • 8 months day sessions / 10 months evening sessions
  • Day sessions: 8am to 12pm or 1pm to 5pm

Medical Assistant Disclosure

Medical Assistants are trained to perform the following duties: take medical histories and record vital signs, explain treatment procedures to patients and prepare patients for examination. Medical Assistants prepare laboratory specimens or perform basic laboratory tests on the premises, sterilize medical instruments and sterilize office exam rooms for surgery. They instruct patients and their families on treatments, medication and special diets, prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, authorize drug refills as directed, answer telephones, telephone prescriptions into pharmacies, draw blood, prepare patients for radiography tests, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures and change dressings, perform first aid, maintain equipment, schedule appointments, arrange for hospital admissions and surgeries, handle billing and bookkeeping, handle correspondence and lab forms and the list continues.
